Description

Richard Strauss’s tone poem Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, written in the last years of the 19th century (1894/95), is emblematic of the artistic possibilities of virtuosity in orchestration. The extraordinary colours, which develop upon the inventions of Liszt and Wagner, are an integral part of the musical discourse. Édouard Risler’s decision to make a concert transcription was therefore openly ambitious.

The much-anticipated solo piano version by Édouard Risler is finally here. This arrangement gained attention when Italian pianist Francesco Libetta performed at the Roque d’Anthéron Festival in 2002. Until recently, publication of the score was impossible due to the copyright protection of the original composer, Richard Strauss, which remained in effect in Europe until 2019. This project has been made a reality in response to the many requests for its release.
